What is omeprazole?

Omeprazole (Prilosec, Zegerid) is a drug that belongs to the group of medicates known as proton pump inhibitors, which assist in reducing the amount of acid made in the stomach. Basically, Omeprazole is beneficial for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and various other problems that arise due to extra stomach acid. The medicine is also useful in the healing of erosive esophagitis that is also grounded by the formation of extra stomach acid. This medicate can also be consumed in combination with antibiotics so as to medicate gastric ulcer reasoned by contagion with helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).

Important information :

Omeprazole is not suitable for giving instant relief in heartburn symptoms.
